We need your help

We are asking for help in completing Luis and Letti's home. We are in need of building materials and plumbing and electrical supplies. We very much need donations of funds to help purchase materials and pay for labor.

Excavation and removal of the trash and dirt from the building site
Labor and truck rental 8600 pesos (Completed)

Backup Water Supply
The water supply will be from a 100-gallon plastic cistern (traditionally made of adobe) called a Tinaco, which will sit on the roof to supply a backup source of water. I already have an electric water pump I'll give them to aid in sending the low pressure village water supply to the Tinaco on the roof. The water in the Tinaco will then be gravity fed to the house when the village supply is turned off. The Tinaco and plumbing will cost around $2240 pesos ($208.00 US). It's a lot of money by Mexican standards, but by installing the Tinaco water storage on the roof, the children will be assured of a bath at night even when the village supply is turned off. Luis and Letti have never owned a Tinaco.

UPDATE: Charley Craven has donated a Tinaco. Thank you, Charley!!!!

The Tinaco is made of black PVC and the blazing sun here will warm the stored water a bit for bathing. I will purchase and install a small propane fired water heater, but since the propane will be a cost issue for them, I will assist them in purchasing propane through out the year. Luis and Letti have never owned a water heater and the idea of buying propane for it scares them. She often cooks outside on a wood fire to save the propane for use in her single propane burner in her kitchen on rainy days. How spoiled we all are in comparison.

They will also need... a small stove to replace their 20-year-old single propane burner, it's exposed flames are dangerous when in use around the children. UPDATE: A stove has been donated

A small refrigerator is needed as their old one quit working years ago. Instead of the bare bulbs hanging from sockets on extension cords they currently use, we'll install four basic ceiling light fixtures through out the house, plus an electrical breaker, correct wiring, and grounded outlets.

A traditional Mexican kitchen counter top and cabinets will be built into the structure out of cement, with a curtain to be used as doors... all done by the builder. Later, my wife plans to purchase, and have installed, tile for the kitchen counter top.

Note: A 10-foot-long kitchen counter top can be tiled over with beautiful locally made Mexican tile for a cost of roughly $60.00 (sixty) U.S. total for materials and labor.

My wife and I are planning to tile the floors in the three rooms later on as God supplies us with the extra finances. Colorful locally made floor tiles cost $6.00 (six) U.S. per square yard and labor to tile the entire house will run about $80.00 (eighty) U.S. The tile work is not only beautiful, but also will keep moisture from seeping through the cement floors from the earth underneath. The smooth surface of the tile will be very functional in aiding Letti in her house work, versus mopping raw concrete floors. Her current floors in their old house are uneven packed mud and rock. We have not mentioned to her that her floors in the new house will be tiled, we're saving that as a special surprise for her. Letti has never lived in a house with tiled floors, only packed mud and rock.

Our gratitude to those that support our work here in Mexico:

Thank you, Bob and Sandy Vincent of Grace Christian Church, for being our friends and pastor for the last twenty-six years. We love you dearly.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes to Norman Black and his church family for the donation of the terrific Chick Tracts of the Gospel. They are now in the hands of hundreds of Mexicans and Indians living in four different villages around the lake.

Thank you, Les and Barbara Vandenberg, and all of your family members, for the continued support you give us through your prayers and your trips here with supplies of Gospel tracts and cassette tapes. We look forward to your return this spring. May God give you a safe trip here.

Thank you Melanie, for the beautiful clothing you sent to my wife. You can trust it is being well used.

Thank you, Lydia Brainard and Harmony Conjurske, and your church family members, for all of your ongoing efforts and donations to the cause of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Mexico. Hurry back, we miss you all.

Thank you, Steve and Leigh Ann den Hartog and your church members, for your donation for children's bibles and food for the poor. In addition, your ongoing work with the orphanages here is such a blessing to the children of Jalisco. We are so very grateful for your financial contribution to assist us with building Luis and Letti's new home. May God bless you in your studies of the Spanish language.

Thank you, Maryls and Judy for your donations toward a power inverter to show the Jesus film in remote areas. We're glad you're now here working with us in Mexico.

Thank you, Indira Winesberry for the women's clothing you sent for the poor of San Juan Cosala. You kindness is such a blessing to these people. We look forward to your arrival here to work with us.

Thank you, Bob and Judy Hendrick of Lake Chapala Baptist Church for your spiritual support in your pastoral care of us, and for your friendship. Also thank you for your donation of the cooking equipment that we use in our soup kitchen ministry to the poor.

Thank you, my dear daughter-in-law Osiris Brumfield, for your kind assistance in translating the fine details of the construction work contracts.

Christian ministry supplies needed immediately:

Please take a look at the list of other needed supplies and materials below,
pray for God's will, and let us know if you can help in any way.

First and most importantly, we need Protestant Spanish Bibles (Latin American versions). We need thousands of them. The cost of these Bibles is our only prohibitive factor. The people here ask for Bibles constantly wherever we go. Most of the people in this area do not own a Bible. We have access to a Bible wholesaler located in Guadalajara, where we can purchase Spanish New Testament Bibles for $2.00 US each (or less) in case quantities. We will cover the shipping costs, or drive to pick them up ourselves.

For the adults; in addition to the Bibles, we need Spanish Christian gospel tracts, brochures, videos, CDs, and books.

For the children; we desperately need Spanish Children's Bibles and videos, plus Christian coloring books and pages with crayons.

High speed multiple CD/DVD duplicators (new or used) for our audio Gospel ministry.

Funding to purchase the above supplies, particularly Spanish Bibles.

Funding to purchase food for the poor.

Funding to purchase medicines and medical care for the poor.

Used clothing and blankets for the poor.

This is a special need I have been praying about. We are in need of a Volkswagen Westfalia or other small RV to make extended overnight trips to the remote mountain villages (no hotels are available) to present our audio and video ministries. This need goes beyond mere comfort or convenience, but will permit our living for extended stays among the people we bring the gospel to without infringing on their privacy.

My personal prayer request...
I recently updated my backpacking gear in order to accommodate carrying a larger supply of Christian Gospel materials. This summer I began hiking into the Purépecha (also known as the Tarascans) Indian villages, and the Coire Indian villages located in the state of Michoacán. Please keep me in your prayers as I seek to reach these noble people with the Gospel of Christ.

Our accountability to our supporters:
We desire to give reassurance to our supporters that their donations are being used properly in the ministry here in Mexico. All purchases of ministry materials and supplies using donated funds will be thoroughly documented and made available to the donors by email at their request.

We wish to remain honest and accountable to those that support our efforts here in Mexico, as we are accountable to our heavenly Father, in that, on the day of judgment we will stand before Him without shame.

May God open your heart to the needs of the people here in Mexico.

In His Service I remain your brother in Christ.  Barry L Brumfield
